Our Firestopping Services
Firestopping & Compartmentation ContractorsWe are an experienced FIRAS Certified contractor specialising in firestopping cable trays, service penetrations, open heads of compartment walls, cross corridor fire doors, risers and meter rooms and so much more.
Firestopping & compartmentation is an area of fire protection to retard the spread of fire through various penetrations commonly occuring in buildings, such as cable trays, conduits, pipework, drainage systems, wiring etc. Basically, we fire seal around every service penetration in walls and floors. We normally perform this service close to the completion of buildings after all the services have been run throughout, such as electrical, aircon, water, drainage, data comms etc.
But often, the buildings are occupied and require our firestopping teams to work safely around the occupants or residents.
We’re happy to offer fire stopping/fire compartmentation surveys to all types of premises. Call Paul for more info.
Roof Space & Loft Fire Smoke Barriers
Flexible fire barriers prevent fire and smoke spread within roof and ceiling voids for all general conditions encountered on site.
The vertically hung Fire Barriers are capable of achieving both integrity and insulation protection periods from 15 to 120 minutes and the friction fitted Fire Barrier Slab can also provide 60 minutes integrity and insulation – essential insulation performance that limits the heat transfer through the barriers, preventing ignition of combustible materials in adjacent areas.
Intumescent Coated Batt
This board is specifically for sealing around service penetrations in walls and floors, a single layer can provide high levels of fire integrity and insulation offering up to 4 hours fire protection.
Firestopping Materials
Any gaps between structural compartment walls & ceiling or roofs have to be sealed. If not then the integrity of the campartment wall becomes compromised. We have many different types of firestopping materials available for any type of compromised situation.
Steel encasing
Structural steel is required to have typically 1hr to 2 hr fire protection . We clad the beams so they are pretected from fire & the effects of fire for up to 2hrs, thus preventing the beams from buckling & collapss.
This system is also used to enclose a wide range of lift shafts, stairwells and service ducts normally at an early stage of the building programme.
Pipe Collars
Pipe collars are manufactured from a high performance material bonded to the inside of a steel sleeve, which on exposure to heat from a fire will rapidly expand inwards to squeeze the collapsing plastic pipe until the aperture is completely sealed.
Steel, copper and plastic pipes are found in all commercial and domestic buildings. A high percentage of these pipes will penetrate through fire rated constructions such as ceilings, floors and walls. Once a hole is made in a fire rated construction for the passage of pipes or services the integrity of the compartment is compromised.
Cavity Barriers
In a fire situation the sleeve expands to fill the available space between the pipe and the penetration. In the case of plastic pipes the sleeve will crush and close off the pipe forming a solid char and preventing the passage of fire and smoke to the adjacent compartment.
Cavity Barriers, provide compartmentation of structures, typically within roof voids and above suspended ceilings.
Cavity Fire Barriers are designed & installed specifically to halt the passage of smoke and flame and to insulate the cold face of the barrier from the rapid temperature rises in a fire situation.
